TALKING TREE PROJECT

We are delighted to introduce the Talking Tree Project in collaboration with Saint Nicks Nature Reserve in York.

This project has been created to introduce  schools and families of children aged 5-8 to 12 different trees that live at Saint Nicks Nature Reserve. Following a map, you will meet the trees who in turn, by simply scanning a QR code, will tell you their stories and encourage you to interact with them in fun and creative ways:

  • Count how many mini beasts live under King Willow!

  • Learn a new song under the singing trees!

  • Show Trevor the Goblin some love with sticks!

  • Hunt for the Golden Conker!

As a group of artists, we are passionate about encouraging children to develop a heartfelt connection with the natural world and instigate a sense of guardianship for local places and one another. Through the talking tree project, we aim to cultivate a sense of wonder, inquisitiveness and compassion for our incredible living planet.

Where to find the Talking Tree Project?

Talking Trees Project: Take Part!: Intro

HOW TO TAKE PART

Simply scan the QR code at the beginning of your journey and follow the map of St Nicks.

Remember to look out for each of the tree's individual faces too!

Once you reach each tree, just hit play on the corresponding audio. You will find this on 'Find and listen to the trees'.

Each story is around 5 minutes and there are interactive activities to join in with along the way, so it may take you a bit longer if you take part.

The Talking Tree Project is free and available 7 days a week from now until the end of the school summer holidays.

That means you don’t have to rush around in one go, you can keep coming back throughout the summer and hear the trees stories and watch the seasons change.

(We recommend you bring water, waterproofs and a mobile phone with you! Headphones are also useful but optional!)
